What a Reformer Pilates Class Looks Like, Start to Finish
Walking into your first reformer Pilates class, or pressing play on your first home session, feels less daunting when you know what is coming. While every class is different, most follow a familiar shape. Here is what a reformer Pilates class looks like from start to finish.

1. Setup and settling in
You start by adjusting your springs, footbar and headrest, putting on your grip socks, and lying back to connect your breath and core.
2. Warm-up
A few minutes of gentle mobility and footwork to warm the body, loosen the joints and switch on the core.
3. The main work
The bulk of the class moves through leg work, core exercises, arm and back work in the straps, and glute exercises, with the springs adjusted along the way. Movements are slow and controlled rather than fast and high-impact.
4. Challenge and flow
Towards the end you may hit the harder exercises, like planks, pikes or longer holds, once the body is fully warm.
5. Cool-down and stretch

The class finishes with stretches and gentle mobility to lengthen the muscles you have worked and leave you feeling calm and tall.
